How does laser cutting works

We all know that lasers are used for different purposes and one of them is that it is used for cutting and engraving metal plates. The laser is used to cut accurately and for great cut quality on different metals like mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum plates. Laser cutter for metal is preferred because they have small kerfs width that affects a small heating area and that is why it is able to cut the most delicate shapes and even smallest holes.

How Laser Cutting Works?

Laser cutting is a process to cut the material using a laser beam. Application of the laser beam can be different as a laser can trim as well as make delicate designs and cuts on the material.

Process of laser cutting

A precise laser beam is aimed to make an accurate cut on the material in this process for a smooth finish. At starting the laser beam pierces the material at the edge with a hole in it and then the beam is continued to engrave.

The laser beam can even cut the acrylic surfaces for that there is a laser cutter for acrylic which can make a smooth cut.

There are two kinds of laser beams pulsed and continuous. The pulsed is used to for delivering the burst shorts whereas the continuous works continuously. The intensity of heat, length, and output of the beam can be controlled and it all depends on the type of material that you are working on. To focus more on the laser beam one can wear glasses.

Types of laser

There are many factors that are responsible for the quality of laser cuts. So when deciding, which use the laser for the particular task, one must list all the requirements they look for and search for them in these types of laser.

The CO2 laser is mostly used for engraving, boring and cutting and the major use for industrial purposes for cutting the materials such as glass, acrylic, wood, leather, paper and so on.

All three types of lasers are used for welding purposes.

The other one is the neodymium laser is used when high energy and low repetition are required along with this it can be used as boring.

The last one is the neodymium yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser is just like the neodymium laser when it comes to style but the neodymium yttrium-aluminum-garnet is used for boring and engraving where high power is needed.
